During the Nazi occupation of Rome in 1944, the leader of the Resistance is chased by the Nazis as he seeks refuge and a way to escape.


This fall the Dante Society movie series is focusing on movies staring Anna Magnani.

“Rome, Open City” was directed by Roberto Rossellini.  It is set in 1944 Rome under Nazi occupation, and focuses on a resistance leader trying to escape the city with assistance from a priest.  The film was included in the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage’s 100 Italian films that “have changed the collective memory of the country between 1942 and 1978.”
